The  Sixers have won the tournament thrice, including the last two years in a row. The Strikers, the Renegades, the Heat, and the Sydney Thunder are the other four champions. According to bbl news today, taking their lead from the championship game that took place at Etihad Stadium only last night, one take a look back at five more of the KFC Big Bash League’s all-time finest games.

  • Melbourne Stars against Perth Scorchers –

James Faulkner, not the regular captain Shane Warne, came out to meet Simon Katich for the toss in a dramatic semi-final match that was cut short by rain. This was the start of a very controversial start to the match. As usual, the King of Spin was in charge, but the Stars put a C next to Faulkner’s name because both Warne and Cameron White were punished for slow overrates. Both White and Brad Hodge scored 50 runs, which helped the visitors reach 183 in their allotted overs. However, heavy rain brought that number down to 139, which the Scorchers had to beat in 13 overs. White and Brad Hodge both got hundreds, which helped the visitors get to 183 runs in the time they were given. Shaun Marsh started off the Scorchers’ turn by scoring 27 runs off of Alex Keath’s one over. Because of the slippery pill, Warne chose not to bowl, which let Marsh score those runs. Faulkner threw six overs that were perfect, but none of the three leaders noticed that there were only three players in the batting circle for the last ball. The Stars had to score 10 runs in the last over, and Faulkner gave them six perfect overs. The all-rounder had to bowl again, and Adam Voges’s boundary sealed the win. The Stars were left wondering how they could have missed a chance to make the playoffs.

  • Perth Scorchers against Sydney Sixers –

The Big Bash League’s first-ever super over was a disappointing way to end a game that had been very exciting. Brett Lee, a veteran player for the Sixers, took four wickets to help bring the Scorchers’ total down to 153. With the help of Steve Smith, who will be captain of the Test team in the future, it looked like the Sixers were about to win the game. Still, the home team managed to tie the game and force a one-over tiebreaker when he was taken out of the game in the 18th over. Yasir Arafat got Steven Smith with the first ball of the match and Moises Henriques with the second ball of the match (for his second duck of the match). All that was needed for the Scorchers to win was for Adam Voges to hit a boundary off of Brett Lee’s first delivery, which he did (again!). The Scorchers won the game because of this.

  • Brisbane Heat against Hobart Hurricanes –

Top-placed The very bottom spot The Hobart Hurricanes most likely went into their match against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba believing they would cruise to an easy victory. Despite this, Heat openers Andrew Robinson and experienced Test batsman Matthew Hayden was successful in bringing the underdogs to 100 by the ninth over. In the whole history of the BBL, this was the first occasion that a team scored more than 200 points. It seemed as if the Hurricanes would not be able to pull off the surprise when Jono Wells was dismissed for 57 in the eighth over, but stunning cameos from Travis Birt and Owais Shah moved them closer to the target. On the cover that was the second-to-last one, Shah struck two consecutive fours. This brought the required run rate down to three runs in two balls, which was much more manageable. Because of this, the squad was able to complete the over they needed to win the game. The match was tight right up to the very end, but Alister McDermott maintained his composure, and the ‘Heat was able to pull off a victory by two wickets when both Birt and Shah nicked the ball off the bowler’s final two deliveries.

  • Sydney Sixers against Perth Scorchers –

A significant meeting between the Sixers and the Scorchers was the last event of the BBL|04 seasons. The whole season, fans of both teams had been waiting for this moment to finally arrive. When Sixers skipper Moises Henriques arrived at the crease, his side was already seven wickets down and behind the opposition. The only substantial contribution he made to the Sixers’ paltry total of 147 runs against the Scorchers’ formidable assault was his 77 runs, which he scored off just 57 balls. The reigning champions were doing well courtesy of Shaun Marsh’s outstanding batting until a late downturn forced them to require eight runs off the final over of the game and of Brett Lee’s career, but the dip caused them to need those runs (73 out of 59 balls). His first pitch was hit for four runs, but he soon got back on track by striking out Nathan Coulter-Nile and Sam Whiteman with consecutive yorkers. His first ball was hit for four runs. His performance was impressive overall. The Scorchers are able to win their second title in a row as Yasir Arafat nicks another hardball from Lee in the final over, the batters sprint for a run, and Henriques misses the immaculate throw at the non-end.

  • Sydney Sixers against Adelaide Strikers –

Everyone who was present will remember this game for a very long time since it was the first time Travis Head played in front of an Australian audience. Because of this, this game will be remembered for a very long time. As the Strikers needed to score 51 runs off the final 18 balls, it seemed as if they had no chance of winning since the Sixers had scored an outstanding 176 owing to the efforts of Brad Haddin and Ed Cowan, and the Strikers were out of options. Despite this, Head got his side back into the game by scoring 4, 6, 4, 6, 6, 1 in the 18th over, which was bowled by Sean Abbott. With the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, the left-hander completed his century and then struck a six to close off an unexpected triumph for the Strikers. This victory was a pleasant surprise for everyone.
